Abstract [en]
This study investigates the distribution of household labour in Swedish couples and therelationships between the division of household labour and gender roles. Despite Sweden'sreputation for gender equality, disparities in household labour persist. Using data from theInternational Social Survey Program (ISSP) 2012, the study employs multiple regressionanalysis to examine these relationships. The research is grounded in theories of gender andcapital, as well as existing literature on gender roles, to provide a comprehensive frameworkfor analysis. Key findings include a strong positive connection between gender and the timespent on household tasks, with women spending more time on household chores than men.Higher income is associated with less time spent on household tasks, while higher educationlevels and older age correlate with more time dedicated to these tasks. Notably, attitudestowards traditional gender roles did not significantly impact household labour hours. Theseinsights contribute to the understanding of how demographic and socio-economic factorsinfluence the division of labour in the household, despite the progressive gender equalitypolicies in Sweden.
