An historical compile of the depot areas and an overall exposition of the legislation. AbstractVasteras oil harbour has been used for storage of petroleum products since the late 1930´s. Ownership of the oil depots has changed over time due to business mergers, sales and closure. The activities of the different companies has resulted in the area being polluted with oil, mostly because of accidents, but also spill due to lack of restrictions and former standards. An inventory has been done to gather material about the pollution situation in the area, which will serve as the basis of an assessment of necessary authority/agency measures. The report also consists of an overall exposition of polluted areas from a supervision perspective. The information was gathered mainly from different administrative archives and authority reports. The soil investigations that have been done show that the area is polluted with both petroleum and metals such as lead, zinc and cadmium. Further investigations are necessary to determine the exact extent of the pollutions. The pollution levels in some areas exceed what are considered to be suitable in an industrial area, in which case decontamination can be necessary. Measures that may be necessary to take to achive this is responsibility investigations and injunctions about soil investigations and decontaminating.
