Good leadership for good quality (English)
Abstract [en]

Good leadership is important if you like to have high quality in the results. My experience in the production of the television industry is that conditions for good leadership is insufficient. Therefore, I have tried to get answers for those two questions in my exam report:

What are the characteristics of good leadership? What are the prerequisites for good leadership out of production?

The method I used is a literature study and observation.

I have read a number of books and research studies about the importance of the leadership for the working group's final results and the commitment of staff during the working process. It is clear that leadership is an important parameter for a good result. However, I have not found any research on leadership in the media production business area. My observations from two media production companies have however shown the inadequate working environment for employees, lack of leadership, and difficult conditions for the exercise of positive leadership. I think the media production branch of industry should have business opportunities and reach more and broader customers (in this case television viewers) if there was a more stable labour market with clear conditions of employment, healthy working hours, multicultural groups and so on. Then those who have supervisory functions should get an opportunity to perform its leadership and develop as leaders. Employees would feel more committed and secure. More people would dare to work in the media industry and remain in various stages of life. For example, the time in life when you have children and thereafter. It would eventually provide higher quality and more stable results. It requires a major cultural shift that would create sustainable jobs and market.
