Women's experience when encountering health care professionals, while living with endometriosis : -A litterature study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe women’s experience with health professionals and their encounters with them, while living with endometriosis. Method: In this literature study ten articles were quality controlled and a qualitative manifest content analysis was made to receive a result. Searches for articles has been done in three databases, PubMed, Cinahl and PsychINFO. Results: Three main categories were identified, lack of a favourable encounter, lack of knowledge and positive health care meetings. The literature study shows that the women was encountered with disbelief, normalization of symptoms and difficulties in getting a referral to specialists. Conclusion: The result of the literature study shows that a lack of knowledge among health professionals exists and that this should be addressed. A better knowledge of endometriosis could lead to an improved encounter between women with endometriosis and health professionals.
