Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the present study was to investigate paramedics’ view on traffic safety. This was to highlight factors that create traffic risks and thereby give suggestions for improvements that will reduce the risk factors. Sixteen paramedics at an ambulance station in a medium-sized Swedish city were interviewed using a semi-structured interview method. A thematic analysis was performed on the content of the interviews. The analysis demonstrated four main themes regarding traffic risk factors and one theme regarding the participants’ suggestions for improvements. The conducted study shows that the interviewed paramedics have a clear safety philosophy. However, many improvements can be made regarding, for example, the driver’s environment in the ambulance as well as the interaction between ambulances and other road users.
