Language impairment : -Do students' and teachers' views on favorable learning environment match? (English)
The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of what it means to have the diagnosis specific language impairment, and find out how to facilitate the education. The research questions were: How do students diagnosed with specific language impairment consider that teaching should be adapted? What do the students think about to receive a diagnosis? How do teachers consider that teaching should be adapted for students diagnosed with language impairment? How do the students' and teachers' views on favorable learning environment match? Three teachers working in middle schools and three high school students were interviewed. The results showed that the students had many suggestions on how they felt that teaching should be adapted in the best way. The teacher who had the most experience of students with specific language impairment, also possessed the most knowledge of how teaching should be adapted. The students were generally positive to the diagnosis. The teachers thought that special needs teacher's most important task was to support the teacher. The students had very little or no experience of teaching by special needs teachers.
