Abstract [en]

With increased competition between places, it has become important for countries, regions and cities to produce cultural and experience products to increase the attractiveness of a place. Through that, events have become a vital part of the development of cities and a way to differentiate from other places. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to investigate in which aspects the interaction between stakeholders in an event network can help to strengthen competitiveness for the specific event and its destination. Furthermore, this study aims to illustrate how social relations and processes at a specific location contribute to geographical differences. To answer the purpose of the thesis a case study of Bråvalla music festival has been conducted. That includes how public, private and non-profit stakeholders interact within a festival network. But also, how the network creates effects for both the festival and the city of Norrköping as a destination. To answer the purpose, five different semi-structured interviews have been conducted with various stakeholders in the festival network.

The result of the study has enlightened the factors of success and the competitiveness of the festival as; the location, commitment and the process of change. These factors can be linked to the interaction between the actors in the festival network of Bråvalla. The collaboration within the festival network has created a meeting place that allows for new relationships and collaborations, knowledge transfer and continued collaboration in new networks. This has created opportunities for new projects and investments, which in turn can create benefits for both Norrköping as a destination, but also as a city to live in.
