Abstract [en]

People increasingly multitask more with media following the growth of technology . Previous studies have investigated the relationship between media multitasking and cognitive abilities. The results following these studies have been ambiguous regarding the relationship between media multitasking and task-switching ability. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between media multitasking and task-switching ability. The hypothesis was that an increase in media multitasking would contribute in a greater experience in shifting attention between tasks. A known measurement to evaluate media multitasking was used to assess whether participant tends to media multitask frequently or less frequently. The partciants perfomed some tests measuring task-switching ability and an intelligence test. The results showed a positive significant association between media multitasking ability and task-switching ability. This may indicate that the growing use of media multitasking may affect how we shift attention.
