Abstract [en]

Copy painting, as a method in supervision of art therapy practice is a qualitative case study within a humanistic-existentialistic art therapy framework. The aim of this study was to obtain information about how the copy painting of clients´ art work influence the understanding of clients´ therapy processes. The study group consisted of four art therapy students participating in art therapy practice including supervision. Photos of clients´ art works brought to the supervision, and photos of copy painted art works made during supervision were included in the study. The data were analysed using content analysis in an inductive way. The data analysis disclosed the main themes painting, movement, understanding and space. Features appearing on a subconscious level and features that help to understand clients’ processes and students’ self-awareness processes were discovered. Students were simultaneously working with their own processes, with their self-awareness and with experimental understanding. The study proved the method of copy painting is influencing students´ understanding of the clients´ therapy processes.
