Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In art therapy, image creation is a cornerstone and the factor that makes this form of therapy unique. This study aimed to describe what happens when an image was created. The creation was commented upon verbally and was recorded by a video camera. The study was conducted as a self-study where the author created the images. The approach was qualitative and the video recordings were analyzed using content analysis. The results were presented in two parts, one described the components grouped in themes according to Vija Lusebrinks Expressive Therapies Continuum Model (ETC), and the other part described the interaction between these components. The investigation resulted in the conclusion that image-making is a complex task that involves many components and concerns many domains of human functioning of thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The study links carefully together with the ETC components highlighted. The study can benefit the understanding of image-making as a phenomenon in art therapy.
