Combining Adaptive Bitrate With Frame Accuracy

Abstract [en]

The goal of this thesis is to investigate how to combine the techniques Adaptive Bitrate and frame accuracy in HTML5. In the thesis we will find a suitable protocol for Adaptive Bitrate and suggest a method to sustain frame accuracy with it. We first evaluate the major protocols for Adaptive Bitrate and then suggest a method using MPEG-DASH as delivery protocol and take advantage of the MSE protocol for the client. This suggested method is tested evaluated in a proof of concept prototype and is evaluated in comparison to a traditional HTML5 player using progressive downloads in terms of QoE. The experiments conducted proves a notable difference in the players and that keeping a Frame Accurate player is possible.
