Children’s and adolescent’s experiences of living with chemotherapy treated cancer. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Nyckelord: Barn, ungdomar, cancer, cytostatikabehandling, upplevelser.

Method: A literature-based study composed by nine qualitative articles. The result of the studies were reviewed, analyzed and compiled.

Result: In the result four main categories emerged: important relationships, the disease and its treatment – side effects and procedures, the need of coping and the psychological impact. Family, friends and hospital staff were important since they could offer support. They suffered from treatment related side effects concerning their daily life. Coping strategies were developed to help them manage their situations.

Conclusion: Cancer and its treatment has a major impact on children and adolsescents. These can be eased by the nurse’s support and competense. Further research concerning home care is necessary since it’s shown to promote health and decrease strains.
