Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

According to the curriculum for the elementary school for the intellectual disordered (hereinafter ”the school”), the task of the school is to create the right conditions for all pupils to progress towards the national goals. This task is achieved through well-planned and structured teaching. This study aims to describe how three remedial teachers (hereinafter “the teachers”) at a specific school form their teaching. The study is a case study with a specific place for the investigation. The study is based on observations of and interviews with the teachers and on a questionnaire with the pupils. The result of the study shows that the teachers take into consideration the pupils` level of knowledge and their pre-conditions and needs in the teaching. Individual adjustments are made through both different tasks and group assignments, and by means of the appropriate level of help and support. The study further shows that there is a rich variety of working methods and working procedures. The teaching is knowledge-oriented, with the result that the pupils can progress. Furthermore, such teaching gives them the opportunity to learn new things. The teachers emphasize the importance of establishing and maintain a good relationship and trust with the pupils.
