Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Cognitive abilities and the ageing of the brain are influenced by everyday environments such as the workplace. Occupational characteristics such as complexity and its effect on cognition have been a subject of interest for many papers. This study combined objective and subjective assessments of occupational complexity, and investigated the association between occupational complexity and cognitive abilities. Data from 276 individuals between the age of 50-75 entailing information about main lifetime occupation, cognitive and general intelligence performance were used in multiple regression analyses. Results showed that greater occupational complexity was associated with attenuated cognitive decline.
