Abstract [en]

This is a qualitative study that aims to examine the use of music as a pedagogical tool for second language learning in high school. The study examines how teachers implement music when teaching English as a second language to Swedish students, partly through analysis of lesson plans shared by teachers on a website, partly through a survey administered to Swedish high school teachers. The results showed that the teachers in this study had an overall positive view on implementing music in their teaching, even though the majority rarely used it. The analyzed lesson plans showed a fragmented use of music, where it is mainly used for discussing and working with the lyrics. The research examined in this study showed several ways music might be useful in second language learning, but gave little suggestion to methodology that could be implemented into Swedish second language classrooms.
