Abstract [sv]

BAKGRUND: Depression är en vanlig sjukdom som drabbar många och den psykiska ohälsan ökar hos både kvinnor och män. Depression medför ett stort lidande och kan leda till suicid, men det är en sjukdom som går att behandla. Coping handlar om att hitta sätt att hantera stressfyllda eller jobbiga situationer och olika individer använder sig av olika copingstrategier.

SYFTE: Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att beskriva copingstrategier hos vuxna personer som har eller har haft depression.

METOD: Resultatet av åtta studier med kvalitativ design har kvalitetsgranskats, analyserats och sammanställts. Urvalet skedde genom sökning i databaserna CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, SveMed+ och SwePub.

RESULTAT: Två kategorier framkom i resultatet: Att hantera depression genom problemfokuserad coping och att hantera depression genom emotionsfokuserad coping.

KONKLUSION: Det finns olika copingstrategier för att hantera depression, effekten av dessa är individuella. Sjuksköterskan kan tillsammans med personen identifiera copingstrategier som fungerar för denne. För att kunna identifiera copingstrategier krävs kunskap kring detta.

Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND: Depression is a common illness that affects many people and the psychological ill health is increasing amongst both men and women. Depression causes a great suffering and can lead to suicide, but it is an illness that can be treated. Coping is about finding ways to handle stressful or tough situations and different people have different coping strategies.AIM: The aim of this literature study was to describe coping strategies amongst adults who have or have had depression.METHOD: The result of eight studies with qualitative design has been quality examined, analyzed and compiled. The selection was done by searches in the databases CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, SveMed+ and SwePub.RESULTS: Two categories appeared in the result: To deal with depression through problem focused coping and to deal with depression through emotion focused coping.CONCLUSION: There are different coping strategies for dealing with depression, the effects of these are individual. The nurse together with the person can identify coping strategies that works for that person. Knowledge about this is necessary to be able to identify coping strategies
