Women's experiences of living with endometriosis : A qualitative literature study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Endometriosis affects approximately one in ten women of childbearing age, the disease means that endometrium grows outside the uterine cavity. Pain is a common symptom, but the disease also affects psychological and social aspects that can result in limitations in the everyday life of the woman.

Aim: The aim of the literature study was to highlight women’s experiences of living with endometriosis.

Method: A qualitative literature study has been completed. Ten qualitative empirical articles have been reviewed, analyzed and compiled.

Result: The result was compiled into three categories: 'Living with pain', 'Living in a relationship with limitations' and 'Living with a chronic disease'.

Conclusion: Women with endometriosis experience severe pain that affects large parts of life, related to sexual dysfunction and infertility, and that the chronic disease causes the woman to live in uncertainty.
