Abstract [en]

Summary: The aim of this study is to investigate if there are any differences in dialogue- pattern between the teacher and students, depending on the style of the mathematical instruction (i.e., open or traditional). Audio recordings from two of my lessons were analyzed. The conclusion is that the dialouge-pattern differs in a number of ways. The most important differences regard that students seem to build an alliance with the me as teacher with the open mathematical instruction. With the traditional mathematical instruction the students seem to alienate from me and the subject. Additionally, with an open mathematical instruction the students seem to take a larger step towards reasoning about the learning subject. A leap which could be supporting learning in a number of ways. With the traditional mathematical instruction the students seem to remember the learning subject.
