Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Palliativ vård i hemmet ser ut att öka de kommande åren. Anhöriga har en betydande roll i omvårdnaden vid livet slut. Tidigare studier visar att palliativ vård i hemmet kan vara påfrestande för anhöriga och påverka deras hälsa. Som omvårdnadspersonal är det viktigt att ha en förståelse för anhörigas erfarenheter av palliativ vård och se familjen som en enhet. Detta för att kunna ge anhöriga god omvårdnad och stöd.

Syfte: Att belysa anhörigas erfarenheter av att vårda en familjemedlem i palliativt skede i hemmet med stöd av omvårdnadspersonal.

Metod: En litteraturstudie baserad på tidigare empiriska studier. Databassökning genomfördes i Pub Med, Cinahl, Scopus. Resultatet är baserat på åtta kvalitativa studier som granskades, analyserades och sammanställdes.

Resultat: Resultatet sammanställdes till tre kategorier: att vara vårdare, relationen till omvårdnadspersonal samt existentiella utmaningar.

Konklusion: Anhörigas erfarenheter av palliativ vård påverkas av relationen till omvårdnadspersonalen. Anhöriga åsidosätter sina egna behov vilket leder till en påverkan på anhörigas hälsa. Omvårdnadspersonalen har en viktig funktion i att identifiera brister i egenvårdsförmåga och behovet av stöd hos anhöriga. När den palliativa vården sker i hemmet är det viktigt att omvårdnadspersonalen lyfter fokus från den döende familjemedlemmen och ser till hela familjen.

Abstract [en]

Background: Palliative care at home is going to increase for the years to come. When practicing palliative care at home family caregivers have a very important roll. Previous studies show that the health of family caregivers that are practicing palliative care can be negatively affected. As professionals it is important to have an understanding of the experience of family providing palliative care at home and see the family as a unit. This, to give the family needed support and care.

Aim: To illuminate the family caregivers’ experiences of taking care of a dying family member at home with support of professionals.

Method: A literature study based on previous empirical studies. Database queries were carried out in PubMed, Cinahl, Scopus. The results are based on 8 qualitative studies which were reviewed, analyzed and compiled.

Result: The result is put together into 3 categories: To being a family caregiver, The relation to professionals and existential challenges.

Conclusion: Family caregivers experience of palliative care at home can be affected of the relationship to professionals. Family caregivers put their own needs aside which leads to an influence on the health of relatives. Professionals have an important role in identifying insufficiencies and needs of support for the family caregivers. When palliative care takes place in the home, it is important that the professionals take the focus from the dying family member and look to the whole family.
