2019 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesisAlternative title
People with transexperiences encountering health care professionals (English)
Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund

Metod

Genomförd litteraturstudie inkluderar nio kvalitativa vetenskapliga artiklar. Databassökningen genomfördes i PubMed, Psycinfo och CINAHL. Materialet analyserades sedan med inspiration av innehållsanalys.

Resultat

Resultatet sammanställdes i tre kategorier: positiva vårdmöten, kunskapsbrist hos vårdpersonal och kränkande handlingar.

Slutsats

Abstract [en]

Background

The need of care among people with transexperiences is extensive. The minority group is marginalized and measures low self-rated health. Earlier studies have shown that the group is excluded in different ways, both within society and healthcare. The healthcare professionals often provide care with negative attitudes.

Aim

The aim of the study was to describe how adults with transexperiences experience the encountering with healthcare professionals.

Method

The literature-study included nine qualitative scientific articles. The articles were found in Pubmed, Psycinfo and CINAHL. The material was analyzed with inspiration from content analysis.

Results

The result was compiled to three categories: positive encounters in healthcarehealth care professionals’ lack of knowledgeand offensive acts.

Conclusion

People with transexperiences are constantly exposed to discrimination and stigmatization. There is a prominent lack of knowledge among healthcare professionals regarding this minority group in health care contexts. Transhealth is a subject which requires additional research.
