Physical activity´s effect on fatigue in people with fibromyalgia (English)
Abstract [sv]

Resultat: Totalt nio studier inkluderades.

Abstract [en]

Abstract

Background: Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic pain often with other symptoms like fatigue, sleep-disorders, gastric problems, difficulties to concentrate and headache. Fatigue is a main part of the symptoms and effects the everyday life when the conditions makes them more tired so they can’t do the work and activities they were used to doing before they got fibromyalgia.

Aim: The aim with the study was to illustrate what effect physical activity has on fatigue in people with fibromyalgia.

Method: A literature study of quantitative empirical studies. Database searches were made on Pubmed and Cinahl.

Results: A total of nine studies were included in the literature study. Five of the studies showed that physical activity had a positive effect on fatigue. Three of the studies showed that there was no significant relationship between physical activity and fatigue. One showed that there can be a positive effect on fatigue but also no significant effect on fatigue depending on the BMI.

Conclusion: Physical activity may have a positive effect on fatigue in fibromyalgia. In this literature study several different types of physical activity have had a positive effect on fatigue, although studies with similar physical activity have had no effect on fatigue. Therefore the conclusion is that physical activity does not only have a positive effect on fatigue.

Keywords: Fibromyalgia, physical activity, exercise, fatigue, literature study.
