Abstract [sv]

Resultat:Resultatet kategoriserades in i fyra kategorier och åtta subkategorier.

Abstract [en]

Background: In Sweden, women across the country are offered to participate in mammography screening to exclude or detect breast cancer as early as possible. However, not all women choose to participate in the screening program. Mammography screening is a examination that can be experienced strenuously both physically and emotionally. Some experience a lot of discomfort while others do not.

Aim: To highlight women’s experiences associated with mammography screening.

Method: A litterateur study in which results from eight studies with qualitative approach were examined and analyzed. The included articles were searched in Cinahl and PsycInfo.

Results: The result was categorized into four categories and eight subcategories. The main categories consisted of: Feeling anxious about the procedure, Feeling left out, Being able to feel trust, and living in uncertainty.

Conclusion: Most women experience some form of physical or emotional stress at some point in connection to the mammography screening. The way the radiographer is behaving and which kind of information they are giving is of great importance for how the women experience their examination.
