Abstract [sv]

When the special education teacher returns after additional training with new skills, they may have difficulties in claiming their professional role. As well as finding their new professional role, the special education teacher should also meet the expectations from the field. The purpose of this interview study was to find out the expectations from educators, preschool directors and principals in preschool and school grades 1-3 of the role of the special education teacher, and its efforts. The research questions were: 1) what is special education in preschool and school? 2) What is the special education teachers´s role in preschool and school? 3) What is the role of management regarding the mission of special education teacher? The results show that: 1) the support in preschools applies primarily to staff in school, it is mostly the students which are supportted by special education. 2) The role of the special education teacher in preschool should be consultative and supportive with ideas and advice. The school regards the special education teacher as someone who will take care of students who need support. 3) The role of management for the misson of the special education teacher is very important. Informants from management also say that the special education teacher is their "right hand". It states that the managment and the special education teacher needs close co-operation.
