Abstract [en]

The aim of this project was to construct a free-space frequency-modulated laser radar, and to use this radar to measure the position and velocity of a moving object. To this end, we constructed an interferometer using an near-infrared laser. A moving motorized stage inserted in one of the two arms of the interferometer was used as the moving object, and the reference signal was obtained from the other arm of the interferometer. We determined the performance of the radar and compared its performance with a fiber-based frequency-modulated laser radar. The velocity and position obtained with the two radars are similar, and we obtain the measurements error of the -0.146857[mm] in position measurement and the 0.00834[mm/s] in velocity measurement.
