Put Mobile IT into Practice-: Make Information Avaliable Across Organizational Boundaries

This paper reports the initial results from an ongoing study of work in a home care organization where mobile technology has been applied. The investigation rests upon empirical material gathered through observations and interviews. The discussion puts forward promising characteristics of emerging use patters of mobile technology while coping with the duality of process and practice. Features of different objects and the role of people’s conceptions of technology are addressed and discussed. When considering mobile work in order to provide ecological valid solutions of IT artifacts, a number of emerging challenges as mobile technology seems having the ability to align well to already existing patterns of interaction and social scripts. Furthermore, The patchwork of systems in municipal service prohibits the kind of system described in this case due to problems of interconnectivity.
