Linking complexity and leadership competences of project managers
Umeå University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Umeå School of Business.
2007 (English)In: IRNOP Conference VIII 2007, 2007Conference paper, Published paper (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

Leadership competency profiles of successful project managers in projects of different types of complexity were assessed. Fifty-nine project managers of successful projects showed different leadership profiles, depending on the dominating type of complexity in their project. The results from the present study, which was mainly based on IT projects, were contrasted with the results of a similar study from the plant engineering industry. Modelling the differences in perceived complexities by industry showed complexity of faith being lowest in plant engineering and highest in IT. Reasons and implications are discussed.
