Environmental certification of a multi-residential building (English)
Abstract [en]

Environmental issues are a complex matter and the effort to reduce the carbon footprint from the construction industry is significant. To facilitate work on the issue, several different certification systems for buildings have been developed, both in Sweden and internationally, with Miljöbyggnad being one of the most widely used in Sweden. The system focuses on indoor environment, material, and energy usage and has been updated several times over the years. This report focuses on Miljöbyggnad 4.0.

The objective of this report was to examine how well a ”standard” multi-residential building stands up to the requirements of Miljöbyggnad. In addition, we also investigated what else needs to be done to achieve a higher rating level on the building.

For Miljöbyggnad 4.0, 15 indicators must be examined and calculated to develop a rating for the building. To achieve this we used various methods, including document analysis, calculations, and a few different simulation programs to determine the ratings for the indicators.

Only indicators 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8 are studied in this report. Other indicators are only analyzed for what we believe the building can achieve. The final result showed that this standard multi-residential building reaches a Silver rating in Miljöbyggnad 4.0. It also showed how, with fairly simple means, the building can achieve a Gold rating.

The work shows that the multi-residential building has good energy consumption, sustainability and environmental impact. Certification of the building shows that the house has a good indoor climate, which is also good for those operating in the building. With relatively small means, it is also possible to achieve the Gold rating for the building and thus further improve the performance of the property. Simply put, Miljöbyggnad is a good way to build and manage buildings in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
