The submissive man : A gender studie of the role as submissive in Islam, Christianity and Hinduism (English)
Abstract [en]

The following essay begins with analyzing how the man can be assigned the role as submissive by using a gender perspective on Islam, Christianity and Hinduism. The result suggests that submission is what each human, regardless of gender, takes in relation to a religious authority. Furthermore the essay investigates why the role of submission only has come to be associated with women in earlier studies of religion with a gender focus. This suggests that submission is a result of contemporary researchers who maintain the role as female, which has come to influence how gender roles are constructed and interpreted within religious traditions.
