The aim of this essay is to study the place and function of grammar as a teaching area in the policy documents for compulsory and upper secondary school in Sweden. Furthermore, the essay aims to examine potential similarities and differences regarding grammar in the documents of the different school forms. The used method is a thematic analysis, where the material has been coded and classified into themes. Based on the analysis, two main themes were identified: grammar and progress. The two main themes could then be divided into several subthemes, which further describes the place and function of grammar within the policy documents.
