The aim of this study is to examine how the chapters regarding language and gender are depicted in textbooks by applying a gender perspective. Inaddition to that, the study aims to find whether time or the currentcurriculum of the books’ publications have a more prominent impact on the results. Therefore, textbooks from both Lpf94 and Lgy11 are analyzed. The research questions regard how the chapters in each textbook are described and whether the textbooks challenge or perpetuate stereotypic images of males and females. The study utilizes two methods; the first investigate show the chapters describe language and gender. The second method, acritical analysis method, scrutinizes the impact of different grammaticaland syntactical elements on the text. The result indicates a progress regarding how the textbooks portray women and men, and a tendency, amongst the younger textbooks, to problematize the idea of two static genders. However, the result also indicate that the textbooks primarily focus on the differences between how females and males use language; the similarities between how the two groups use language are overlooked. Moreover, the results show a lack of more recent studies regarding language and gender in the textbooks, which could influence students’ image on women and men’s behavior today.
