Abstrakt

Bakgrund: Begreppet revansch används i samhället för att beskriva en vinst efter en tidigare förlust men även för att beskriva en positiv förlossningsupplevelse efter en negativ upplevelse. Barnmorskans roll som stödperson för den person som ska föda barn är viktig för att bidra med kunskap och stöd så att upplevelsen av att föda barn blir positiv. 

Motiv: De få studier som finns för begreppet revansch i samband med födande berör den födande personens erfarenheter däremot är barnmorskors syn på begreppet outforskat. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att belysa hur barnmorskor ser på begreppet revansch och vilken betydelse de uppfattar att det har i samband med födande. 

Metod: Studien genomfördes med kvalitativ metod och induktiv ansats. En webbenkät med möjlighet till fritextsvar skickades ut via ett internetforum för barnmorskor och barnmorskestudenter. Totalt hade studien 56 deltagare med olika lång erfarenhet av barnmorskeyrket. En tematisk analys av fritextsvaren genomfördes i sex steg enligt Braun och Clarke. 

Resultat: Analysen resulterade i tre teman; ”Att inte värdera förlossningsupplevelsen”, ”Att bidra till realistiska förväntningar” och ”Att stödja den födandes känsla av kontroll”. 

Konklusion: Barnmorskornas syn på begreppet revansch var mångfacetterad och komplex. De var bekanta med ordet i samband med födande men förmedlade samtidigt en oro över att det skulle behövas. Barnmorskor bör reflektera över hur de kan möjliggöra en upplevelse där den som föder går stärkt ur sin förlossning, utan behov av revansch, men därtill behövs strukturella och organisatoriska förutsättningar för att detta ska kunna genomföras kliniskt.  

Abstract

Background: The concept of revenge is frequently employed in society to depict the act of reclaiming something lost in the past. It can also allude to a positive childbirth experience following a negative one. The midwife's pivotal role as a supportive figure for the birthing individual is essential in providing the necessary knowledge and support to facilitate a positive birthing experience. 

Motive: The concept of revenge concerning childbirth has been minimally studied. Existing studies focus on the experiences of the person giving birth, but the perspective of midwives remains unexplored.

Aim: The study aimed to explore midwives' perspectives on the concept of revenge and its relevance to childbirth. Methods: The research employed a qualitative methodology and an inductive approach. A web-based survey featuring open-ended questions was disseminated to midwives via an online forum. A total of 56 participants with varying levels of experience in midwifery participated in the study. The open-ended responses were thematically analyzed using the six-step process delineated by Braun and Clarke. 

Result: The analysis resulted in three themes; "Not placing value on the birthing experience", "Contributing to realistic expectations" and "Supporting the birthing person’s sense of control". 

Conclusion: The midwives possessed a nuanced comprehension of the notion of revenge, linking it to the process of childbirth while expressing reservations about its relevance. They held the conviction that midwives should endeavor to facilitate a birthing experience that fosters a sense of empowerment in the mother, thus negating the desire for revenge. Nevertheless, they underscored the significance of establishing appropriate structural and organizational prerequisites to realize this objective clinically.
