The transition to a more sustainable society requires changes from all levels of society. One sector that plays an important role in reducing negative environmental impact is the transport sector. Since academics is a group that often travels, the purpose of this paper was to investigate the attitudes and behaviors of university employees regarding sustainable transport choices for business trips. It also examines similarities and differences depending on faculties and units. Data was collected by a survey sent to employees at Umeå university. The findings reveal that there was a significant difference between how employees at the medical faculty priorities transport choices for business trips in comparison to how employees at the social science faculty and the technical-natural science faculty priorities. Findings also show that methods such as stricter travel and meeting policies, clearer information on the process for booking train tickets in Europe and changes in working hour agreements would be good to promote more sustainable travel. The report identifies obstacles for a more sustainable travel such as economy, unreliable trains, importance of physical meetings and time. Despite the need for business trips, there is still support among the employees at Umeå University to implement changes that contribute to more sustainable travel. This study can therefore serve as a basis for further discussion and reflection on the premises under which the university's business trips should take place in the future.
