Abstract [en]

This masters thesis investigates teachers's beliefs about homework in French as a foreign language in compulsory and upper secondary school in Sweden. It is based on a questionnaire that a group of 17 French teachers filled in to describe their practices and opinions about homework. Their answers show that homework is a standard assignment in French teaching, word lists being the more frequent task. Most teachers believe that homework are useful to enhance word learning through repetition, to help students to acquire study skills, and to improve students' performance, especially in written competence. On the other hand, some teachers are concerned that homework increase inequity among students and maintain that school must offer homework support. Nevertheless, most teachers consider homework as an important tool in language learning and would continue to give homework even in teaching in ideal conditions.

Abstract [fr]

Ce travail de fin d'études s'intéresse à la représentation des devoirs chez les enseignants de français langue étrangère (FLE) au collège et au lycée en Suède. Il s'appuie sur une enquête auprès de 17 enseignants interrogés sur leurs pratiques de classe et opinions relatives aux devoirs. Leurs réponses montrent que les devoirs sont une pratique courante dans l'enseignement du FLE en Suède, l'étude de mots de vocabulaire constituant le devoir le plus fréquent. La plupart des enseignants considèrent les devoirs utiles pour l'apprentissage du vocabulaire, pour l'acquisition des techniques d'étude et pour l'amélioration des compétences, particulièrement à l'écrit. Certains enseignants s'inquiètent cependant que les devoirs augmentent l'inégalité entre les élèves et estiment que l'école doit offrir une période d'aide aux devoirs. Pourtant, la majorité des enseignants voit avant tout les devoirs comme un outil d'apprentissage et affirment qu'ils continueraient à donner des devoirs même en enseignant dans des conditions idéales.
