Abstract [en]
The Scandinavian region stands out from the rest of the world regarding its welfare structure. The Scandinavian countries de-commodifies the citizens from the market to a higher degree in relation to other countries. Earlier research on this subject doesn't distinguish the countries from each other, which it needs to do since these countries all have slightly different approaches towards the market. To study this issue we have used the notion of work centrality, which has its roots in Weber’s theory of protestant work ethic. The essay is also delimited by young adults because they are a group of people which also stands out regarding the degree of work centrality. A quantitative analysis has been made to figure out how this group of people in these countries constitutes a larger difference than what is written in earlier research. The results show how Sweden and Finland constitute their own group, while Denmark and Norway constitutes another group, but the controlvariables doesn't explain this phenomenon. A need for bigger data and more research on this area is displayed, but this essay contributes to a starting point of a more nuanced picture of the Scandinavian region in the field of work centrality.
