Abstract [en]

The purpose of this essay is to present a sociological understanding of the experiences regardingthe discussions on the use of semaglutide for overweight bodies in relation to the currentsemaglutide debates in media and society at large. The usage of the type 2-diabetes medicationsemaglutide is explored in reference to the antagonistic approach towards those utilizing itprimarily for its weight loss properties and how they are negatively portrayed as being the causefor the international shortage. The analysis is grounded in a thematic analysis and introducesthemes pertaining to the overweight body in society such as the “anti-fatness”-discourse,individual experiences and the portrayal of overweight bodies. Further it emphasizes theassociated consequences for physical self-satisfaction especially of those deviating from thebodily norm. The analysis is based on semi structured interviews with five respondents withrelevant experience regarding the use of semaglutide and weight.
