Kvalitativ vård trots utmaningar - Filippinska sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av palliativ vård : En empirisk intervjustudie (Swedish)
Abstract [en]

Background: Palliative care aims to ease the suffering of patients with incurable diseases. Nurses has a vital role in this process by managing symptoms, providing emotional support, and caring. In the Philippines, access to palliative care is limited due to a lack of resources and stigma, leading to many people not receiving adequate care

Aim: This paper aims to describe Filipino nurses' experience of giving palliative care to patients in home care.

Methods: This is a qualitative interview study based on four semi-structured interviews with Filipino nurses. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results are presented in three categories.

Results: The study shows many barriers to providing palliative care in the Philippines. Lack of knowledge, staff-shortage, and insufficient education was described to be the main barriers. The nurses developed strategies to provide palliative care with limited resources. The nurses described both challenges and rewards in their work. The challenges were things like work-related stress, emotional aspects, and a heavy workload. Positive aspects were the relationships they built with their patients, the feeling of doing something important, and their role in their multiprofessional team.

Conclusion: Filipino nurses work to provide their patients the best quality of life during their last time, despite limited resources and lack of knowledge. They adapted their strategies, spread awareness, and strived to ensure the highest possible quality of life for the patient.

Abstract [sv]

Resultatet presenterades i tre kategorier.
