Det föreligger ett behov av att studera hur förändring i teoretisk kunskap påverkar klinisk praxis. Lisa Feldman Barretts teori om konstruerade känslor och holistiska perspektiv på hjärnans funktion lyfts upp som ett paradigmskifte inom kognitiv neurovetenskap. För närvarande saknas forskning som undersöker hur teorin tillämpas. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka och öka förståelsen för hur terapeuter som anammat teorin om konstruerade känslor tillämpar den i sitt dagliga arbete med patienter. Sex semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med legitimerade kliniker med minst grundläggande psykoterapiutbildning och erfarenhet av att tillämpa teorin om konstruerade känslor i sin kliniska praxis. Det insamlade materialet analyserades med hjälp av tematisk analys och resulterade i fyra huvudteman. Resultaten visade på att teorin har en inverkan på terapeuternas arbetssätt genom att främja processinriktat och relationellt arbetssätt. Teorin användes inte som en strikt metod utan som ett förhållningssätt och en ny vetenskaplig grund att förstå och reglera känslor. Terapeuterna uppfattade att de med teorin som ram, i samarbete med sina patienter, nådde resultat som minskning av rädsla och undvikande beteenden, ökning av känsla för egenmakt samt ökad förmåga till känsloreglering.  Trots den positiva effekten av teorin framkom det att terapeuterna saknar systematiska utvärderingar och uppföljningar av sina behandlingsresultat vilket i framtiden skulle kunna stärka implementeringen och långsiktig effekt i praktiken. 

The relationship between changes in theoretical knowledge and its impact on clinical praxis requires further exploration. Lisa Feldman Barretts theory of constructed emotions represents a paradigm shift in cognitive neuroscience. However, there is a notable lack of research investigating how the theory is applied in clinical contexts. This study aimed to explore how therapists who have integrated the theory of constructed emotions into their clinical practice implements it in their practical work. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with licensed clinicians with at least foundational training in psychotherapy. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis resulting in four main themes. The findings indicated that the theory influences the therapists approaches by advancing a process oriented and relational working method. Rather than being implemented mainly as a method the theory serves as a guiding approach and a new scientific framework for comprehending and regulating emotions. The therapists perceived that the patients achieved outcomes such as reduced fear and avoidance behaviors, an increased sense of empowerment and improved emotion regulation, using the theory as a framework. Despite the positive outcomes the study highlighted a lack of systematic evaluation and follow-up of treatment results which could support the implementation and sustainability of the theory in clinical practice.
