Abstract [en]
This study aims to compare the perspectives of the Municipality of Katrineholm and students in year 9 at Järvenskolan, a local secondary school, regarding three public art pieces displayed around the school: Hemljus (2016), Monument över en tall (2022), and Det lilla är det stora (2018). The first part of the study provides a detailed introduction to these artworks, outlining their original intent. The second part involves a site visit, where I observe the locations of the public art pieces in person. The focus of the study is to assess whether the original intentions behind the artworks are effectively communicated to the students. By using survey methodology together with reception theory, the students’ views and opinions are collected through a survey, specifically designed to gather their perspectives on these public art pieces. The study suggests that the students are often uncertain about the artworks' initial intent, and that their engagement with public art is influenced by this uncertainty.
