How Social Structures Affect Genus in the Air Force: : an analysis of Genus Aspects of drone usage within the air force (English)
Abstract [en]
This research aims to understand how social structures, and cultures in the form of media and official documents form thoughts about UCAV pilots in different countries. To proceed with this research, it was divided into two parts; In the first part, I researched thirty-nine countries that had UCAV in 2022. I use Inglehart's (1997) theory about secure and insecure states, which has the following components: in insecure states the need of a strong political leader is great, meanwhile in secure states, the government is rather a helping hand. In insecure states, the roles of men and women are strict, where women have tasks that are seen as traditional female tasks, such as taking care of the household, meanwhile, men need to earn money. In secure states, on the other hand, these norms are challenged, and the society is not strict in keeping these traditional cultures up (Inglehart 1997, 43). In the second part of the research, I chose four countries, two that got low results on the scale, and two that got higher results, and compared these four countries. This research is qualitative research, with quantitative traces, and is based on secondary data analysis. I analysed the US, the UK, India, and Russia. Meanwhile, the US and the UK are on the way to make being a drone pilot more favourable for women through different policy changes etc. India´s and Russia´s air forces are, although women are allowed to be drone pilots, keeping the idea of the air force as a masculine organisation.
