Den här studien undersöker romanerna Kallocain av Karin Boye och Balladen om sångfåglar och ormar av Suzanne Collins. Analysen är baserad på några utvalda begrepp från marxistisk litteraturteori. Den här studien fokuserar på hur huvudkaraktärerna influerar deras respektive samhälleliga system samt egenskaperna av båda dystopiska samhällen och hur de porträtteras i romanerna. I slutet av analysen ställs de mot varandra i en komparativ analys. Båda romanernas huvudkaraktärer sitter på positioner av relativ makt i de dystopiska system de är en del av, då de ges möjligheter att skapa förändring. Vi kom fram till att medan Leo Kall, huvudkaraktär i Kallocain, inte hade för avsikt att förvärra samhällets totalitarism, så gjorde han det. I Balladen om sångfåglar och ormar var Coriolanus mål alltid att få makt och sedan använda den för att straffa Panems invånare. Resultatet av den komparativa analysen var därmed att även om deras intentioner var väldigt annorlunda så är båda två den största faktorn till varför deras respektive samhällen blev ännu mer fasansfullt.

This study examines the novels Kallocain by Karin Boye and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. The analysis is based on a few chosen terms from Marxist literary theory. This study aims to examine how the main characters work to influence their respective societal systems as well as the characteristics of both dystopian societies and how they are portrayed in the novels. Toward the end they are put next to each other in a comparative analysis. Both novels main characters are in positions of relative power in the dystopian systems they are a part of, as they are given opportunities to create change. We concluded that while Leo Kall, the main character of Kallocain, did not mean to worsen the societal totalitarianism, he did. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Coriolanus end goal was always to gain power and use it to punish the inhabitants of Panem. The result of the comparative analysis was therefore that although their intention was vastly different, they are both the biggest factor to why their respective societies turned even more horrifying.
