Umeå University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Educational Measurement.
2008 (English)Conference paper, Published paper (Refereed)
Abstract [en]

The extent to which students are able to understand the text in an item is important in order forthem to show what they know and can do. In this study a word-recognition test is used toidentify items where verbal skills have a significant contribution to the probability of gettingthe answer right. The items identified were analyzed in order to find critical features in theitem texts. The analysis resulted in several categories pertaining to text structure and wordcomplexity.
