Abstract [en]

The popularity of homeschooling is increasing worldwide. In many western countries homeschooling is a growing phenomenon. Particularly, in North America homeschooling has become a choice for many families. Despite its growth, little is known about homeschoolers. In this paper we highlight the reasons for why parents, in North America, choose to homeschool their children. The study is based on the available research data in the literature. The results show that concerns about ideologues, pedagogues, and poor school environment are the three broad categories that parents give as reasons for homeschooling.
