Do the customers at the Strömpilen shopping mall in Umeå, Sweden, have the environment inmind when they shop clothes and food? Do they want to increase their purchases of ecologicalproducts as they regard food and clothes and what changes in the ecological range wouldmake them buy more ecological products? These were the main questions in a survey thattook place at Strömpilen, and the results were then compared to results of other polls and studies.Of 200 questionnaires 90 were answered by 56 women and 34 men. The result showsthat almost everyone who answered the survey buys something that is ecological when theybuy food, and they do this because they think it is better for the environment. When it comesto clothes many of those taking part in the survey (13 % of the women and 38 % of the men)did not even know that ecological clothes existed. The majority wanted to buy more ecologicalfood and clothes, but for them to do so there had to be more of a selection and the productsmust be cheaper. There was also a slight predominance of women (40/56) being more willingto buy more ecological goods than men (14/34). Those results corresponded well to otherstudies. According to the results of the survey, there must also be more information aboutecological merchandise and these must be more available and it must be easier to find instores. The costumers have the will to buy more ecological products, but a person’s will andhis/her actions do not always see eye to eye.
