Abstract [en]

Application of the general advice of The National Board ofHealth and Welfare on drinking water among waterassociations in the municipality of Skellefteå

The extent to which the general recommendations for drinking water by The National Boardof Health and Welfare is used among water associations in Skellefteå has been examined inthis report. This is meaningful to study because national water sampling programs havingshown that there are deficiencies in the quality of drinking water from small water wells. Thequestion of whether they work sufficiently with their water treatment plant should thereforebe justified. An examination of how the municipality of Skellefteå works with private wellshas also been studied in this work. The study was consisted of a questionnaire survey, contactwith the municipalities of Sweden and an interview with an environmental inspector inSkellefteå. The survey shows that the general recommendations of the Board are not wellknown among water associations in Skellefteå. It also indicates that the work with watertreatment plants sometimes is insufficient, and that several associations don’t check thequality of their water as often as they should. It seems that the associations with knowledge ofthe Board’s general advice are working more frequently with their water treatment plantsregarding both sampling and supervision of the plant, well and suroundings, than theassociations without previous knowledge. The municipality of Skellefteå does not regularlywork with private water sources but there are reasons to create better conditions for smallwater treatment plants regarding information on sampling, supervision and the generalrecommendations of The National Board of Health and Welfare on drinking water.
