Abstract [en]

This chapter addresses project managers’ leadership styles and their appropriateness for different types of projects. It starts by outlining the need for leadership, and then describes the historical schools and the recent schools of leadership theory. Research studies on the impact of leadership style on project results are presented, with emphasis on the emotional (EQ), intellectual (IQ) and managerial (MQ) competences of leadership. The chapter ends with an emerging theory of project performance based on the leadership competences of the project manager.
