Examination of the borough Tynnereds waste sorting
The aim of the report was to explore the waste sorting in borough of Tynnered in Gothenburg Municipality. Focus was also put on investigating how effective a questionnaire was in measuring the rate of waste sorting in the different divisions. A further aim was to provide Tynnered borough with ideas and recommendations to facilitate and promote effective waste sorting. To achieve these objectives, questionnaire answers from the different units in Tynnered borough were used as a basis together with complementary field studies. A comprehensive account of the waste sorting performance of all units was conducted. The units were sorted into different groups with the results being presented both collectively and each group of units individually. The results showed that at least 82 percent of the mandatory waste fractions were sorted in the borough as a whole. The result for optional waste fractions was at least 69 percent. Consideration has to be taken when comparing the different groups of units, as they are very diverse, varying much in both size and what kind of waste they deal with. Two groups of units distinguished themselves by having lower percentage of waste sorting. The first group's low result was caused by a unit with comparatively low waste sorting because of a lack of containers dedicated to some of the fractions. The other group was subject for a field study and investigation that revealed both negative and positive aspects. After examining the questionnaires, waste sorting in Tynnered borough was found to be satisfactory in spite of lower figures in some units. There is however room for improvement of both the questionnaire and the actual waste sorting in the borough, and suggestions of ways to do that were presented in the report.
