Abstract [sv]

Eino Leino (1878-1926) is considered one of the most well-known poets in Finland. Except poetry, Leino has written novels, short stories, as well as drama. In this paper the language in Leino´s Onnen orja is studied. Frequencies of finite and infinite verbs are investigated and compared with frequency lists. Among solitary, infinite verbs, the use of present participle in active is investigated in selected sentences. Present participle in active in the material is most commonly occurring as adjunct to a noun. Less common is the use of present participle in active in syntactic constructions (lauseenvastike). In some cases the present participle in active, occur in an elderly form of writing. This is probably due to the style of the author. Some sentences are shortened and therefore difficult to explore. However the novel Onnen orja shows interesting aspects of the author’s language and versatility in mode of diction.
