Umeå University, Faculty of Arts, Department of culture and media studies.
2011 (English)In: 2011 IFTR Conference: "Tradition, Innovation, Community" : Osaka, Japan, 7-12 August / [ed] Helen Gilbert, Osaka, Japan: IFTR FIRT , 2011, 1-5 p.Conference paper (Refereed)
Abstract [en]

This paper starts with an actual reaserch report on MMA, to describe how the sport is situated and framed within the community as such being staged, artificial and yet authentic. Leading concept for this conference-contribution is masculinity, phenenomenology. By using Bruno Latour and Donna Harraway the author shows how bodies are connected in separate ways. One by the means of the material infliction the violence has on its body, and the other by how they control their MMA-bodies to resist pain.
