Syftet med denna uppsats är dels att undersöka egenskaper hos ra- tionella polyederkoner och deras genererande baser, kända som Hilbert- baser, och hur dessa kan användas för att konstruera de halvmagiska kvadrater som Benjamin Franklin konstruerade på 1700-talet och som matematiker har roat sig med sedan dess. Vidare angrips frågan om hur Hilbertbaser för spetsiga polyederkoner hittas, och en algoritm för detta presenteras. 

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is partly to examine properties of ra- tional polyhedral cones and their generating bases, known as Hilbert Bases, and how these can be used to construct the semi-magic squares that Benjamin Franklin designed in the 18th century that have enter- tained mathematicians ever since. Furthermore, the question of how to find Hilbert Bases for pointed polyhedral cones is approached and an algorithm for this is introduced.
