Abstract [en]

Few studies have focused on examining students' strategy use in relation to different learning tasks. Thepurpose of this study was therefore to examine four secondary school students' use of learning strategiesin Swedish as a second language based on various learning tasks involving listening, reading, writing andspeaking, and to examine the individual factors that influence strategy use. The study was conductedthrough qualitative, semi-structured interviews with students and observations. The results indicate thatthe students use a variety of learning strategies and are thus active and responsible students, thatmotivation is the main factor affecting strategy use in different ways and that the students use learningstrategies to facilitate their learning. The study also demonstrates the importance of strategy use andprovides insight into how students who study Swedish as a second language acquires the content ofdifferent tasks.
